As a doctor in Victoria, I have seen the number of children suffering from poor immune systems, chronic ear infections, persistently runny noses, fatigue, headaches, and digestive issues alarming and discouraging. In place of vibrant, playful kids there are sluggish faces and stressed parents. Something isn’t right.
As holistic healthcare providers at Power of Life, we realize that health is not something that you either have or you don’t have. We understand that health is a spectrum that is constantly being moved toward health or toward illness. I refer to anything that moves kids toward illness as “stress”.
The 3-major categories of stress are 1) Physical 2) Emotional and 3) Chemical.
Physical stress includes things such as birth trauma (really common!), falls, injuries, and poor posture.
Emotional stress has a lot to do with home, school environment, and societal stress (don’t underestimate this). Kids can easily feel this stress from adults, social media, and news.
Chemical stress results from medications (both in utero and at birth), pesticides in food, air and water pollution, certain engineered materials in our homes, and products we use in our home and put on our children’s skin.
So what can we do about it?
The first step we need to take is limit the incoming stress to our kids. This includes things such as limiting screen-time, teaching our kids meditation techniques, and changing the types of products we use in our homes.
The second step is to increase those things that push our kids toward health. This includes proper diet and nutrition, regular chiropractic care, exercise and play, healthy family and peer relationships.
What is Chiropractic Care?
Chiropractic is a natural, non-invasive healing technique aimed at optimizing the nerve communication between the brain and every cell, tissue, and organ in the body via the spinal cord system. Chiropractors perform specific adjustments to the spinal segments to open nerve holes in the spine to maximize communication and overall health. In addition, chiropractic adjustments release built-up pressure in joints to improve mobility, decrease pain, improve alignment, and helps prevent joint degeneration and dysfunction.
At Power of Life, we believe that healthy children grow into healthy adults. That is one of the reasons why we encourage proper nutrition, exercise, and regular chiropractic care from a young age into adulthood and for life.
