Hip Pain Treatment At A Glance

Hip pain can change the way you walk, train, work, climb stairs, and even sit comfortably at the end of the day. At Power of Life Chiropractic and Holistic Health, we evaluate the hip together with the lower back, pelvis, gait, and surrounding joints so treatment is based on the mechanical pattern contributing to your symptoms, not just the spot that hurts.

What Is Hip Pain?

Hip pain is discomfort felt in or around the hip joint, groin, outer hip, or nearby buttock. The location matters because pain can come from the joint itself, surrounding muscles and tendons, irritated soft tissue, arthritis, or symptoms referred from the lower back or sacroiliac region.

Some patterns are most noticeable with walking or weight bearing, while others show up after sitting, during exercise, or when lying on one side. A clear examination helps separate local hip problems from pain that is being driven by the spine, pelvis, or lower-extremity mechanics.

Common Causes And Symptoms Of Hip Pain

Hip pain can develop after an injury, repetitive loading, changes in activity, arthritis, irritated tendons or bursae, or mechanical stress that builds over time. Lower-back and sacroiliac problems can also refer pain toward the buttock, groin, or thigh and feel like a primary hip problem.

Symptoms may include groin pain, outer-hip tenderness, stiffness, reduced range of motion, clicking or catching sensations, pain with walking or stairs, discomfort after prolonged sitting, or aching into the buttock or thigh. The symptom pattern, movement triggers, and examination findings help determine which structures are most likely involved.

How We Treat Hip Pain In Victoria

We begin by examining hip motion, gait, the lower back, pelvis, and relevant orthopedic or neurological findings. The goal is to determine whether the symptoms fit a mechanical problem appropriate for conservative care or need another medical pathway.

When appropriate, care may include Chiropractic Care for spinal or pelvic restrictions, extremity adjusting for the hip, and Custom Orthotics when foot mechanics are contributing. We may also use Intersegmental Traction when lower-back stiffness or referred symptoms are part of the presentation.

What A Hip Pain Care Plan May Look Like

A hip pain plan is built around the source of the symptoms rather than the location of pain alone. Depending on your findings, care may combine:

Step 01
Chiropractic Care

Targeted spinal and pelvic adjustments when restricted joint motion is contributing to hip stress or referred pain.

Step 02
Extremity Adjusting

Hip-focused adjusting when the examination identifies a mechanical joint restriction appropriate for chiropractic care.

Step 03
Custom Orthotics

Foot and gait support when lower-extremity mechanics are adding stress through the hip and pelvis.

Step 04
Intersegmental Traction

Gentle spinal mobility support when lower-back stiffness or disc-related symptoms overlap with the hip complaint.

Step 05
Progress Review

Reassessment of pain, movement, and daily function so the plan can change as your response becomes clear.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions About Hip Pain

Can Chiropractic Care Help Hip Pain?

It may help when the pain is related to joint restriction, referred pain from the lower back or pelvis, or movement mechanics that fall within chiropractic scope. We evaluate the source first because hip pain from fracture, advanced arthritis, infection, or other medical conditions may need a different pathway.

How Do You Know Whether Hip Pain Is Coming From My Hip Or My Back?

The location of pain alone is not enough to tell. We compare hip range of motion, spinal and pelvic movement, gait, symptom triggers, and orthopedic or neurological findings to determine which structures are most likely involved.

Do You Adjust The Hip Joint Itself?

Yes, hip and other extremity joints may be adjusted when the examination shows a mechanical restriction and the technique is appropriate. Dr. Nathan Servey, D.C., is certified in the Charette protocol for extremity adjusting.

Could Custom Orthotics Help My Hip Pain?

They may be useful when foot mechanics or gait are contributing to stress through the knee, hip, or pelvis. Orthotics are not automatically appropriate for every hip complaint, so we assess whether they match the mechanical pattern first.

When Should Hip Pain Be Evaluated Urgently?

Seek prompt medical care after significant trauma, when you cannot bear weight, when the hip looks deformed, or when pain and swelling are severe or sudden. Those situations need medical assessment before routine conservative care.
